Dr Tanja Takala
Dr Tanja Takala is a registered and endorsed Clinical Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) with experience working with adolescents, adults, families and groups across various public and private sector settings. Tanja is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (MAPS) and registered with Medicare to provide services under the Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative.
Tanja is highly trained in clinical assessment, case formulation and therapeutic interventions drawing from a range of evidence-based models including: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Systemic Family Therapy and Narrative Therapy. Tanja works with a variety of psychological needs such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, identity/sexuality, personality disorders, self-harm/risk, social and interpersonal difficulties, and family system issues. Tanja also has a special interest in supporting adolescents and adults with diverse sexualities and gender identities.
A priority in Tanja’s work is to consider mental health difficulties as understandable reactions to the stresses of life. Through her compassionate and person-centred therapeutic style, Tanja facilitates her clients’ exploring of their personal and interpersonal experiences, and helps them develop strategies to reduce psychological distress and lead fulfilling lives that correspond with their values.
